Notes from the developer

What is known, what is broken, what is next.

Periodic Reactions is a teacher-built game in active playtesting. Deck v1.2 is the current build. The game will not change until enough classrooms have played it and told us what happened. Until then, this page is the honest list.

Known issues (Deck v1.2)

Errata

Calcium + water: the game treats Water reacted with Calcium as "lime" and safe. Real calcium fizzes in water and makes calcium hydroxide (lime water). It is a real reaction, far milder than potassium. The game simplifies it to a safe reaction on purpose. Teachers: that gap between Ca and K is the activity series.

Acid + base: HCl and NaOH neutralize to salt and water. It is exothermic but not explosive. The game calls it a bust for game balance, not because your beaker would blow up.
